The Institute of Credit Administration is the largest
professional credit management Institute in Nigeria. Our members and students hold appointments in trade, finance, consumer and corporate credit as well as in related activities such as receivables management, credit reporting, credit rating, debt management, factoring and credit management practices. The Institutes sets the Nigeria’s professional standards in credit management, and seeks to increase awareness of its crucial role in improving marketing, profitability and cash flow.
Founded in 1992, the ICA is the centre of expertise in Nigeria for all matters relating to credit management. The Institute:
- Advises Nigerian government on debt management, credit relationship management with external creditors, and capacity building of government personnel on credit management.
- Serves as body of experts on all matters relating to credit management, vide advocacy, policy drafting, programme conceptualisation and implementation, facilitation and Institutionalisation essentially to assist the government and corporate bodies.
- Organizes specialist education and training
- Provides a range of services aimed at keeping credit managers up to date
- Consults with and makes recommendations to the Government and other professional bodies and trade associations in Nigeria.
The ICA is also the only awarding body offering nationally recognised qualifications in credit management. In carrying out this role, the Institute establishes and maintains credit related learning syllabuses, organizes and qualify controls every aspect of the examination process in collaboration with the Postgraduate School of Credit Management to deliver ICA qualifications.
The credit specific courses developed by the Postgraduate School of Credit Management provide ICA students and members with extensive training essential to making astute credit management decisions. Members and students will have acquired in-depth knowledge required for the daily management of the credit department, specialized areas of credit management and the skills to function in the International marketplace.
The ICA professional designation provides assurance to the business community that members have attained the level of professional training to successfully manage a credit department and to function as part of a management team. Members and students earn the respect of their peers and management throughout their careers, by remaining current through continuing professional development and adhering to a code of ethics.
The Institute of Credit Administration (ICA), Nigeria’s national body for Credit Management was established in 1992 but got its backing and certification in December, 2002. The Institute have power to licence, regulate, promote, sanction and set standards and code of ethics to those engaged or should engage in practices of credit management and administration, including credit and business information, credit report, credit bureau, credit guarantee scheme, credit monitoring, receivables management debt recovery and debt management, debt factoring, export credit, credit derivatives, micro credit scheme, credit scoring and credit rating, and all other activities which fall under the preview of credit management, credit administration and credit control forms of business and practice.
The Institute of Credit Administration have power to issues licence, regulate, set standards and sanction any organization or individual who wish to introduce any credit product into the market having to do with credit extension or credit mitigation. In this case, ICA is the only national body vested with power to set conditions and standards, vet and approve application for licence submitted to it by such organization or individual who desire to float or introduce any product into the market with intention to either extend credit, facilitate credit, mitigate credit or guarantee credit.
The Institute of Credit Administration view as an offence and accordingly be punishable if any organization both in public and private sectors fail to cause any of its employee who is involved in credit management functions to register as member of the Institute of Credit Administration.
